Celebrating Kelowna's Centennial 1905 - 2005

 

Robert captures the colorful history of the beautiful city of Kelowna, British Columbia,  Canada through his intricate drawings of the special people and historic events that have molded Kelowna into the vibrant and inviting destination city that it has become today. 

The legend below provides the names and places that have contributed to the legend that has become "Kelowna"

  1. 1905             Henry William Raymer; First Mayor, Population 600
  2. Father Pandosy and his mission, first person to bring apple seeds to Kelowna.
  3. 1892             Eli Lequime helped Father Pandosy, Bernard Lequimes father, King of OK
  4. 1861             John McDougalls HBTrading Post, clothing, packed by horse & mules
  5. 1892             Presbyterian Church on Benvoulin road, now a historical site
  6. 1914-1922    S.S. Sicamous,Capt, George Ludlow Estabrooks, Queen of the OK Lake 
  7. 1900-1914    Tobacco drying barn &Tobacco fields, 800,000 cigars annually
  8. 1925             CN Rail #416 arrived in Kelowna, joined to the Kamloops connector
  9. 1890             KVR CP Rail, connected Vancouver to Kettle Valley
  10. 1914             Pooles Cakes and baking deliveries & Okanagan Mission Mills Flour
  11. 1892             Bernard Lequime, established townsite with map #462, post office worker 
  12. 1894             Dr. Boyce; Kelownas first doctor only doc from Vernon to US border
  13. 1860-1944     David Lloyd Jones, carpenter, last member of the original city council
  14. 1903-1938     P.B. Wittits; First pharmacist
  15. 19271976      Dr. A.S. Underhill, 1934 Director of Calona Wines
  16. 1878-1967     Dr. W.J. Knox/Dr Boyce, 1961 rewarded the order of the British Empire
  17. 1968             Dick Parkinson; Mayor & established airport and tourism
  18. 1908             Dr Kneller & his McLaughlin car, upset many horses on the trail
